For the DJs and music collectors out there: here’s a recent thread on preferred practices in library management.
I have previously outlined my process here: https://ift.tt/1nqocvD
iTunes still remains the goto. But I also keep my Traktor library in the cloud so that I can back it up across computers. Rekordbox export still takes way too long, so I now do set prep and practice in Traktor until it’s down to the final selection and then move it to Rekordbox. Nesting folder systems I prefer to do by genre so that I can dive into them at a moment’s notice and find related tracks. Residencies of course have a consistency to them. Year acquired less so.
Played out in the woods this weekend and was down to just filenames for info on their gear, so that restructured my selection process but was saved by playlists already being in folders. Modifying filenames is tedious outside of using scripts. I have in the past created numbering systems in filenames for specific performances/installations.
